Isaiah tells us in chapter 1, verse 2: "Hear O heavens, and give ear O earth; for the Lord hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me. The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib; but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider. A sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters; they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward."
Isaiah is speaking to God's own chosen race of people; people who had known the Lord. He had built a relationship with them, blessing them far and above whatever they deserved. Yet, here they have rebelled, reject , and turned away from Him. This was Educated Ignorance.
We live in a similar time today. Thomas Sowell, senior fellow at the Hoover Institute, Stanford University, wrote this week: "the ignorance of PhD.s is still ignorance and high-IQ groupthink is still groupthink, which is the antithesis of real thinking."
During the 1930s, it was intellectuals condemning America's economic system and pointing to the Soviet Union as the new model for the future. All the time millions were starving to death under Stalin's Communist system from famine in a country with rich farmland and historically an exporter of food.
It was the intellectuals who persisted in the notion Herr Hitler could be controlled while Europe and America disarmed. In the end, the West was caught unprepared for his insatiable demand for lebensraum.
It was the intellectual crowd that removed God from our public schools. They said Man came from Monkeys. They mocked the biblical story of Creation, replacing it with theories of Big Bangs and coincidence. They tore down the 10 Commandments and replaced them with situation ethics.
As Man has become more "educated", society in America has slid into a nosedive. Tell kids they come from monkeys, soon they begin to act like animals. Abortion, STDs, date rape, illegitimacy, shacking up, and drug abuse run rampant among our youth.
Isaiah saw what lay ahead for his country. "Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire; your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers."
Sound familiar. Chilling even; but the Lord is not finished with Israel. And He is not finished with America either, yet.
"Come now and let us reason together, saith the Lord; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow... If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land..."
Our Lord is still a merciful God, and all He requires is that we repent nationally, corporately, and turn back and seek His face again. The remnant in America is the Church. we are still here because it is His will. we must be salt; we must be the light in the darkness. We must do His Will. Witness Jesus to the lost; seek His will for your life. Be more active in His service. Keep looking up.
