The Lord tells his disciples (Luke 24:49): Wait here in Jerusalem, your backyard, until the promise of 'power' is delivered to you, and then use it to carry out the Great Commission. It took Faith in order to acknowledge our need of a Savior, then to call on and accept Christ as our Redeemer. That is as far as many Believers go. But, Jesus said, exercise more faith in order to use the 'power' that is available to become a greater witness- a greater servant to the Cause of Christ..... sharing the Gospel to win souls. In II Kings, the great man of God, Elijah is going home to be with the Lord. His student, Elisha, requests permission to see him off. He watches in awe as a chariot of fire takes his master home. Then he picks up Elijah's fallen mantle- his cloak a symbol of his authority. By faith, he calls on Jehovah and strikes the running water there. It parts miraculously and he walks across on dry land. The other students of Elijah see the miracle and acknowledge Elisha's authority. Elisha had Bible knowledge, he was a Believer; but he had to exercise greater faith to use the power God was making available to continue the work begun by Elijah. In the town nearby, the water supply had dried up. Using the available miraculous power now, Elisha casts a bowl of salt into the spring and asks God to restore the fountains. The clear clean water gushes forth and the town is saved. The souls of lost men are dry and facing death. They seek artificial means to find satisfaction in this life. Salt is a preserver and a needed mineral; the Gospel message is comparative to salt. Exercise faith Christian friend to use the power available to us-- cast the Good News into the source of life, the souls of people longing for hope in a dreary world. Have faith to use the power.
